Arrival from the airport

To get from the Frankfurt airport to the Mainz train station, there are frequent local trains (S-Bahn) every half hour. There are also faster, more convenient long distance trains (infrequently, roughly every hour). Unfortunately, both depart at different places: the local trains at a platform below ground level just below the terminal building, the long distance trains in the second floor some 400m in front of the terminal building.

The train tickets for the long distance trains (DB) can be purchased in advance, but this is not recommended as Frankfurt has frequently delays in landing. There is a ticket counter in front of the platform. Follow the signs "DB" and "Fernbahnhof" to get to the long distance train platforms via a long tunnel-like corridor. The trains to Mainz depart at the furthest most platform.

The local train tickets (3.55 Euros) are purchased at a bit complicated machines (labeled RMV) at the platforms in the basement or at the information desk (if you can find it). At the machine, the destination code you need to enter is 6500. There is a list next to the machine which lists destination cities and the corresponding codes. If the machine ask you if you want to go past "Rüsselsheim" or via "Frankfurt", say "Rüsselsheim". Then you press "single ticket" - the symbol of a single man, then you insert money (coins, small bills or maybe also credit card - depends). Well, it sounds more complicated than it is.

Taxis from the airport are up to 60 Euros (depending on time) and take 20-30 min outside rush hour. Frequently there are delays due to traffic congestion.

From the Mainz main train station "Hauptbahnhof", take a taxi (up to 12 Euros) or a bus (only 2 stops) to "Universität" or "Friedrich von Pfeiffer Weg" (3 stops). They depart in front of the train station at the right hand side of the place. Ask for help at the bus drivers. Bus number 6 or 6A brings you closest to the campus entrance. On the campus, the institute is in a grey new building next to the Mensa. Please look at the map!
