Composition and Evolution of Crust and Mantle

The "Graduiertenkolleg" started in November 1997 and is funded by the German Research Foundation and the State of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is initiated and organized by the Institute of Geosciences at Johannes Gutenberg University and the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, Geochemistry Division, in Mainz, Germany.

The program covers following fields :

• Geophysics
• Structural geology
• Tectonophysics

The research projects focus on:

• Identification and characterization of episodes of crustal growth
• Processes of deformation and metamorphism during growth and consolidation of the continents
• Evolution of the Earth's mantle and crust-mantle interaction
