Meeting in Galaya (Konso)
with the farmer's
cooperative

All maize was bought at different local markets in Konso. The Arbore and the Konso have through this cooperation decidedly improved their neighbourly relations.

Mr. Felix Girke was on site for a final assessment in August and again at the end of October. The new maize was harvested starting in September, and the sorghum was well ripe by October and had as usually to be guarded against marauding birds.

The entire structure of purchase and distribution had already been developed in Phase 1 of the project, so that in Phase 2 the already established procedures could be directly retained. Some initial problems that had occurred during Phase 1 were consensually solved in discussions with the regional administration in Jinka and the officials in both Dimeka and Arbore.

The census in Arbore (also carried out by the Arbore themselves) set the number of Arbore at about 5480. The project team through personally attending each distribution verified this. Every household was individually represented when receiving their respective allocation.
