Exchange student status

Exchange Students are non-degree seeking students studying for one or two terms in Mainz under the Socrates / Erasmus program or another exchange cooperation of Mainz University. You cannot receive a degree from Mainz University as an exchange student! If you intend to receive a degree from Mainz or to extend your studies beyond a maximum of four semesters, you will have to apply for a regular place at this university.

As a first step, you will have to apply at your home university for a place as an exchange student in Mainz. Generally, this is done by applying to your departmental exchange coordinator, the partnership representative, or the Office of International Relations at your home university. Please note that in order to be accepted as an exchange student in Mainz, you have to be nominated by one of our partner universities. Without such a nomination from your home university, your application will not be processed.

If you wish to apply for an exchange in Interpretation and Translation studies, you will have to contact the Department for Applied Linguistics and Cultural Science at Germersheim directly. You can not study in both Germersheim and Mainz, as Germersheim is some 100km distant from Mainz!
