DFG Collaborative Research Centers

Collaborative Research Centers (CRC = German: Sonderforschungsbereiche/SFB) are research institutions of the universities established on a long-term basis in which academics collaborate within the framework of an interdisciplinary research programme. The different variants of the Collaborative Research Centers, Cultural Studies Research Centers and Transregional Collaborative Research Centers, as well as the programme supplements Junior Research Groups and Transfer Units are funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). In all variants, international co-operation agreements are funded. Collaborative Research Centers make it possible to deal with comprehensive research projects by concentrating on the staff available at a university. The structural objective is the creation of main fields of research at a university.
