JGU performs well in the German Excellence Initiative: Cluster of Excellence and Graduate School of Excellence approved
International committee of experts approves the PRISMA Cluster of Excellence and the MAINZ Graduate School / EUR 50 million to be invested in top-level research in Mainz
Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) performed well in the second phase of the nationwide competition of universities, the so-called Excellence Initiative by the German federal and state governments. The Joint Commission of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the German Council of Science and Humanities together with the responsible ministers of the federal and state governments on June 15, 2012 approved the Cluster of Excellence "Precision Physics, Fundamental Interactions and Structure of Matter" (PRISMA) and of the Graduate School of Excellence "Materials Science in Mainz" (MAINZ). The total amount of funds to be given to Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz over the next five years will amount to EUR 50 million (go to press release).
