CHE ranking Diverse Excellence 2011: British Studies / American Studies at Mainz University ranked in the lead of top-level university research

British Studies / American Studies division at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz excels in terms of international orientation, publications, and doctorates

In the Diverse Excellence 2011 ranking issued by the Center for Higher Education (CHE), the British Studies / American Studies division at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) is ranked in the top group with regard to research achievements. The Center for Higher Education has introduced the Diverse Excellence special evaluation program to replace the former CHE ResearchRanking, supplementing the evaluation criteria by additional indicators. "We are particularly pleased that our British Studies / American Studies division is achieving a top score with regard to the new indicator of international orientation, because our university – an international hub of research and teaching – is deeply committed to transcend barriers between nations and cultures," states the President of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Professor Dr. Georg Krausch. "One of our outstanding examples is the Trinational Summer School, a project involving collaboration with Georgia State University in the U.S. and Peking University in China, which promotes the exchange of doctoral candidates and joint research projects in American Studies, e.g. with the Institute of World Literature in Beijing."

British Studies / American Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz was counted among the leading university research sectors already in the CHE ResearchRanking of 2009. In the new Diverse Excellence 2011 ranking, these subjects were awarded three top places with regard to the defined indicators of international orientation, doctorates awarded per year and professor, and publications per year.
