Students taking the single-subject Bachelor's degree in Economics receive a solid academic education in the area of economics, which qualifies them for relevant careers. It has an integrative character that combines a two-year general education in the basics and fundamental methods of economics with a one-year specialization phase in selected areas of business administration and economics.
In addition to basic theory, this application- and practice-oriented program offers comprehensive empirical content. Besides analytical and methodical skills, students receive practice-oriented and career-related skills that qualify them for immediate entry into a profession, among other things. Moreover, an integrated part of the program is the teaching of specific key skills and foreign language proficiency, by means of elements such as compulsory courses on presentation and working techniques, case study processing, the participation of advanced students in teaching, the transfer of foreign student credits, and lectures in English and foreign languages as recognized elective courses.
The Bachelor of Science in Economics is designed to develop the aforementioned skills, which enable graduates to perform challenging management and specialist tasks in which the ability to solve specific problems on an abstract level is decisive. Besides qualifying its students for a direct career start, the program is aimed at preparing them for participation on the planned Master's programs Master of Science Management and Master of Science International Economics and Public Policy.
The study of Economics as a minor in other humanities and social sciences bachelor's degree programs (two-subject bachelor degree program) is divided into a first and second stage, which lean heavily on the Bachelor's degree in Economics. The first stage gives students an overview of the main components of economics and provides essential knowledge of methods, while the second stage allows students to delve deeper into a discipline related to business administration or political economics.
