Language Requirements

Exchange students do not have to pass a formal language examination in German in order to qualify for an enrolment at JGU. We do, however, expect language proficiency in German equivalent to B 1 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages CEFR).

[For students of Medicine and Dentistry: If you apply for the "Praktische Jahr" (PJ), you must proove language proficiency in German equivalent to C 1.]

In order to help exchange students improve their language skills in German, the JGU Foreign Language Center (Fremdsprachenzentrum) offers tailor-made courses for exchange students. Please refer to Programmstudierende / ERASMUS for more information and the application form "Sprachkurs Deutsch als Fremdsprache".

On page 2 of the application, your home university’s exchange coordinator must confirm that you are officially taking part in ERASMUS or in another exchange programme.

The completed application form has to be submitted to the Foreign Language Center by the deadline specified in the application form.

Please note that exchange students cannot participate in the regular German language classes as well as other foreign language courses offered by the Foreign Language Center.
