Junior Professor MATTEO RIZZI, Ph.D.
Faculty 08 - Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science - Institute of Physics
Junior Professor Matteo Rizzi, Ph.D. On January 1, 2013, Matteo Rizzi was appointed Junior Professor for Condensed Matter Theory at the Institute of Physics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. As a member of the Condensed Matter Theory Group KOMET, his particular interests include Hamiltonian engineering and quantum simulations as well as numerical methods, e.g., density matrix renormalization groups and tensor networks.

Junior Professor Dr. Ruth Brenk On December 1, 2012, Ruth Brenk was appointed Junior Professor for Medical/Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Her research at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Biochemistry focuses on structure-based drug design.

University Professor Dr. René Ketting On October 1, 2012, René Ketting was appointed University Professor with tenure for Developmental Epigenetics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. He is also a Scientific Director at the Institute of Molecular Biology. His research focuses on the role of RNA in epigenetics, a field in which he is considered one of the world's leading researchers.

Junior Professor Dr. Friederike Siller On October 1, 2012, Friederike Siller was appointed Junior Professor for Media Education at the Institute of Education at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. The core aspects of her research are media competency among children and adolescents as well as the acquisition of skills in media education.

University Professor Dr. Matthias Witte On October 1, 2012, Matthias Witte was appointed University Professor with tenure at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, where he has assumed the professorship of Education, with a focus on the subject of Social Pedagogy. His research looks at issues such as child and youth services, transnational and international social work, the correlation of youth, globalization, and transnationalization as well as social work involving body and movement.

University Professor Manuel Fischer-Dieskau On September 5, 2012, Manuel Fischer-Dieskau was appointed University Professor with tenure at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. The internationally acclaimed cellist has assumed the professorship of Violoncello and Chamber Music at the Mainz School of Music.

University Professor Dr. Thorsten Faas On September 1, 2012, Thorsten Faas was appointed University Professor with tenure at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. He has assumed the professorship of Methods of Empirical Political Research at the Institute of Political Science. In addition to the investigation of empirical political research techniques, his main research subjects include elections, electoral campaigns, and electoral studies.

University Professor Dr. Volker Küster On July 1, 2012, Volker Küster was appointed University Professor with tenure at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. He has assumed the professorship of Religious Studies and Missiology at the Faculty of Protestant Theology. One of the key aspects of his work is intercultural theology, with particular reference to the Christian churches in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

University Professor Dr. Stefan Weyers On May 16, 2012, Stefan Weyers was appointed University Professor with tenure at the Institute of Education at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Here he has assumed the professorship of Education, with a focus on the theory of learning and education. Among the subjects he deals with in his research and teaching are education and socialization theories, the development of democracy and human rights as well as the processes of ethical value development in children and adolescents.

University Professor Peter van Loock, Ph.D. On May 1, 2012, Peter van Loock was appointed University Professor with tenure at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. He has assumed the professorship of Theory of Quantum Optics and Quantum Information. Based at the Institute of Physics, he will be focusing on the field of quantum communication and on the generation of quantum information protocols.

Junior Professor Dr. Julia Stenzel On April 11, 2012, Julia Stenzel was appointed Junior Professor for Theater Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Her research and teaching focus on processes of perception of and in theater performances, on ancient Greek theater and its reception in scholarship and on stage as well as on the theoretical and practical aspects of historiography.

University Professor Andrea Büttner, Ph.D. On April 3, 2012, Andrea Büttner was appointed University Professor with tenure at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. She has assumed the professorship of Drawing at the Mainz Academy of Arts. The internationally renowned artist has been exhibiting her works at various venues, including the documenta and the São Paulo Art Biennial.

University Professor Dr. Sabine Fiedler On April 1, 2012, Sabine Fiedler was appointed University Professor with tenure at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. She has assumed the professorship of Soil Science. Her main interests are the impact of global climate change on the mass balance in anthropogenic and natural landscapes, the reconstruction of the paleo-environment, and geo-forensic topics.

As Professor of Chinese: Language, Culture and Translation, his particular interest is multilingualism as a cultural and social phenomenon in the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Singapore.

University Professor Dr. Ludger Körntgen On April 1, 2012, Ludger Körntgen was appointed University Professor with tenure for Medieval History at the Department of History at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Junior Professor Dr. Sarah Scholl-Schneider On April 1, 2012, Sarah Scholl-Schneider was appointed Junior Professor for Cultural Anthropology/Folklore at the Department of Film, Theater, and Empirical Cultural Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Besides the issues of migration and homeland, her research and teaching currently focus on methodology, primarily with regard to qualitative ethnographical methodologies.

He already has considerable experience in the sectors of child and juvenile psychoanalysis, and in special and remedial education.

His core research and teaching activities are in the field of bioorganic chemistry and the area of the interface between nanotechnology and bio-inspired materials for therapeutic applications.

His research will focus on aspects of sports education and ethics, while taking into account the dynamics of modern sports.

His research focuses include current theoretical interpretations of the entertainment industry and the use and impact of entertainment media, in particular the psychological implications of the use of social media.

Junior Professor Dr. Iryna Stewen On January 26, 2012, Iryna Stewen was appointed Junior Professor for Economics, with a focus on International Macroeconomics and Finance, at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Her research and teaching concentrate specifically on the world economy and its current crises, on the macroeconomic effects of bank regulation as well as on international and intranational empirical macroeconomics.

His main research subjects are social, economic, and political communication as well as media change and media innovation.

University Professor Dr. Ulrich Walter On January 1, 2012, Ulrich Walter was appointed University Professor with tenure at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. He has assumed the professorship of Translational Research in Thrombosis and Hemostasis and holds the associated post of Scientific Director of the new Center for Thrombosis and Hemostasis (CTH) at the Mainz University Medical Center.
