The compatibility of family and career is an important aspect when recruiting excellent researchers at all qualification levels. This is why Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz has recently opened two additional child-care centers – one on its main campus and one on the campus of the University Medical Center. The JGU staff can now choose from four child-care centers on the university campus, three on the campus of the University Medical Center, and one on the university campus in Germersheim.

In addition, all JGU members have access to flexible short-term child-care arrangements which allow for coping effectively with high workload situations. Additional support and child care is offered by facilities such as parent/child work rooms, the family child-care network, and leisure-time programs for children as well as by flexible working hours designed to facilitate the combination of family and career. Parents can also apply for re-entry grants.
