Univ.-Prof. Dr. ARNE NIEMANN
Professor für Internationale Politik
Arne Niemann, Jahrgang 1970, erlangte seinen Bachelor-Abschluss im Fach Internationale Beziehungen im Jahr 1995 an der London School of Economics and Political Science. Für sein Masterstudium wechselte er an die Universität Cambridge und erlangte hier 1996 mit einer Arbeit über "The European Commission, the concept of spillover and PHARE" den Master of Philosophy in European Studies. Nach einem Gastaufenthalt am Europäischen Hochschulinstitut in Florenz in Italien promovierte er im Jahr 2000 an der Universität Cambridge im Fachgebiet "European Studies / International Relations" mit einer Dissertation zum Thema "The internal and external dimensions of European-Union decision-making: developing and testing a revised neo-functionalist framework", die auch als Monographie bei der weltweit renommierten Cambridge University Press erschienen ist.
Die folgenden zwei Jahre war er bei Cap Gemini Ernst & Young in Berlin als Strategieberater tätig, wechselte dann von 2002-2006 als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an das Institut für Politikwissenschaft der Universität Dresden und lehrte hier die Bereiche Internationale Beziehungen und EU-Studien. Vor seiner Berufung an die Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz im Februar 2011 war Niemann als University Lecturer in Europäische Integration und Internationale Beziehungen am Department of Political Science der Universität Amsterdam beschäftigt.
Niemanns Forschungsinteressen konzentrieren sich insbesondere auf den Bereich der europäischen Integration. Seine Studien beschäftigen sich v.a. mit Fragen zu den Entscheidungsprozessen in der Europäischen Union, den Theorien der Europäischen Integration und der EU-Außenpolitik.
